A week ago today, my friend Ryan died. I had never lost a friend before. I wasn't sure what to say or think. I felt disoriented for days. I had to go to class, work and fulfill other duties, but it was like my ears were ringing from an M-80 that exploded too close to my head.

Levi Bulgar said he's bringing back the Summer Senate.
As student body president elect, he has a great idea. However, more initiative needs to be taken to ensure the success of this plan, and Bulgar himself needs to set bigger goals for himself.
The organization stems from the executive board and their cooperation would set precedence for other members.

This semester has been a stressful one. Long hours and late nights have consumed my life, but I wouldn't trade the experience I gained. I've thought a lot about what I would write in my last column. My intention was always to address my last column as Editor in Chief to everyone I love, because I couldn't have survived this semester without them.

As the race for the Democratic nomination is winding down with every negative political campaign ad run, I find myself as a conservative struggling to decide whom to root against. I mean seriously, who wants a candidate in office like either of the two democrats? They have hundreds of problems they want to solve, but not a single answer for one of them, well not a single viable answer.

Either the media are at the feet of college athletics or college athletics are at journalists' throats. There's no in-between.
Last month, The Daily Texan reported on its blog that the Austin Police Department suspended an assault with injury investigation in which Longhorns backup quarterback John Chiles was a suspect.

In case you haven't heard, we have an imminent crisis on our hands.
The news-savvy college student has likely heard that food prices are on the rise, to the point that Third World governments are being overthrown to protest the unavailability of life's most basic commodity.

Way back during the Freshmen Orientation of 2004, I had the pleasure of hearing Professor Phil Laemmle's famous "Biscuit Speech." Laemmle was a great teacher and great man who made a positive impact in the lives of numerous students. His annual Biscuit Speech, delivered at freshmen orientation, was about how college freshmen are young and stupid, but by listening to folks like him, they could fix it together.

We were born this way.
We did not ask to be born independent minded. No one asked us if our desire was to be born in a nation where free speech is given, human rights are protected and privacy and property are respected. Sons and daughters of liberty, we were born under the banner of freedom for all citizens of this great nation.

For months there have been discussions, debates and wringing of hands across campus about how to cope with the state budget cuts and what the money crunch means for every University department.

I consider myself relatively lucky for this election, as I don't intensely despise the Republican nominee for President, John McCain. Save Ron Paul, had it been Romney, Huckabee(?), Guiliani, or any of the other fools that espoused their hypocritical slime during the Republican primaries, I would probably have turned on the apathy and tuned out the next seven months.

With this year's election marking the first time in U.S. history when an African-American is in serious contention for the presidency, it comes as no surprise that the nature of race relations is being reexamined. What wasn't expected is the extent to which pure racism is influencing the nomination of the Democratic candidate.

Four years ago when I first stepped foot on the University of Louisville campus, I'll never forget that ball of apprehension lodged into the pit of my stomach. I felt in over my head and scared. However, it took no time at all to learn the tricks of the trade, so to speak, of college life.

With plenty in America calling Barack Obama's comments elitist, maybe it is time the United States took a look in the mirror. Currently the saber-rattling and bellicose rhetoric emerges at a thunderous pace as Washington and the military amp up possible war with Iran.

It wasn't Justin that brought sexy back, it was the man in the muscle-T.
Moreover, scrawny boys in muscle shirts are enough to send any female over the edge. How can you resist the twig-like limbs and poverty-stricken concave ribcage sneak peeks from the shirt's low-cut sides?
Yeah, daddy, that's what I'm talking about: serious sex appeal.

Earlier today I was reading the most recent issue of The Guardian when I came across another batch of letters to the editor.
Essentially they consisted of blatant bashing and insulting of the paper on the part of the writer's. Each time the paper is released it appears to have the same letters simply repeated over and over again, not only insulting the intelligence of the writers but the integrity of the paper as a whole.

Words usually flow freely to me. I can flex my vocabulary muscles on cue and rattle off 17 synonyms for the word depressed. On Tuesday night, all words escaped me. That's when SIUC senior Ryan Rendleman died in a car accident. Ryan was a friend to all his co-workers at the Daily Egyptian and an inspiration to us all.

And it came to pass.
Early in the morning toward the last
day of the semester,
There arose a great multitude smiting the books and wailing.
And there was much weeping and
Gnashing of teeth,
For the day of judgement was at hand
And they were sore afraid, for they
had left undone
Those things which they ought not to have done,
And there was no help for it.

Your article regarding Rainbow Alliance in the April 30, 2008 issue of the Guardian was very informative, but perhaps you should have gone directly to the source of all the complaints against the organization.
The Guardian interviewed only two of the organization's advisors, only two student members, and had perspectives from sixty percent of the executive board, who of course are going to defend their position on cancelling the organization's meetings.

You know you've done it. I know I have. It happens in some lecture hall (or, if you're lucky, in a small classroom). He's that young, über-hot professor and he's probably a graduate student. The only reason you go to class is so you can sit in the front row and stare at him for two hours. And you wish you could date him (among other things).
Like you haven't.

The end of the school year brings a moment of reflection to everyone's mind.
Academically, there's the realization we actually learned considerably more than we thought. Even with all the missed classes - whether legitimate or just because we needed a break - all the required reading left unread and the studying we worked harder to avoid than if we had actually studied, a wealth of knowledge has been bestowed into every student's mind.
